Primary Care: 5 Easy Ways to Stay Active at Work
Thinking about making an appointment with your primary care physician for prevention reasons? Good idea! This means you are being proactive when it comes to your good overall health. When you practice prevention techniques, you are much less likely to become sick or be diagnosed with an illness. It is always easier to prevent yourself from being diagnosed with any health issues vs. needing to find a treatment option in order to deal with or eliminate a health issue. If you happen to be one of the many people who work in a job that does not allow you to be very active during your work day, then learning some easy ways you can be active when at work can help you stay strong and healthy.
Staying active at work
Many jobs require little to no physical movement at all, which is not good news for the many workers who either sit or stand in one place for the majority of the day. Since getting plenty of exercise on a regular basis goes hand in hand with overall good health, learning how to stay active at work is a great idea for those who sit or stand for long periods of time.
The list below includes five easy ways for anyone to be more active during their workday.
#1 – Hand weights, resistance bands
Using hand weights and/or resistance bands when sitting at a desk can work out many muscles as well as burn calories. It is first necessary to learn how to properly use them in order to prevent being injured.
#2 – Form a walking club with other employees
Getting fellow workers involved in becoming active during the workday is a great idea, as it encourages more people to get involved in being proactive about their good health. Setting certain walking times is suggested so everyone knows when to meet, like before work, during lunch or after work.
#3 – Walk, walk, walk
Walking everywhere and whenever possible is a great way to stay active at work. Examples include taking the stairs, using the furthest restroom, walking around the building during a break, walking to a coworker's desk vs. emailing them and walking to nearby local restaurants for lunch.
#4 – Volunteer to go on runs
Volunteering to go on runs when coworkers want food, coffee or need an errand performed can be very beneficial when it comes to getting one’s daily amount of required exercise.
#5 – Wear comfortable clothes and shoes
When comfortable clothes and shoes are worn to work, it is going to make it much easier to be active throughout the day. If the workplace requires more formal wear, then bringing a change of clothing is suggested.
