Should I go to Urgent Care for a UTI?
Urgent care centers are a great choice to treat a urinary tract infection (UTI) quickly and responsibly. If a UTI is not treated in a timely manner it will lead to someone experiencing additional health complications. It is even possible that it can cause a serious kidney infection. This makes medical treatment necessary to get rid of the urinary tract infection as soon as possible.
If someone is experiencing a severe kidney infection due to their UTI, it may be necessary for them to be admitted to a hospital for intravenous treatment.
Urgent care centers for UTIs
Thinking about going to an urgent care center so you can be treated for your urinary tract infection? Good idea. Living with a UTI can lead to your experiencing various types of health issues and can often be painful. An urgent care center can provide you the treatment you need. But, if you wait too long to seek treatment, know that your UTI can get worse, which is something you want to avoid. Two of the more serious problems that can happen if you do not seek immediate treatment are permanent kidney damage and sepsis.
About urinary tract infections
When someone has a urinary tract infection, it means that they have an infection in their bladder, urethra, ureters and/or kidneys. While women are more likely to be diagnosed with a UTI, men can be diagnosed with them as well. Some of the more common symptoms of this type of infection include a strong urge to urinate, experiencing a burning sensation when urinating, cloudy urine, red or bright pink urine, urine that has a strong smell and overall pelvic pain.
What causes urinary tract infections?
A UTI is caused by a bladder infection, which more often than not is caused when bacteria are allowed to enter the urinary tract through the urethra. Once the bacteria reach the bladder the bacteria will begin to multiply, eventually causing an infection in the urinary tract. The reason why women are more often diagnosed with a UTI is that they have a shorter urethra. This means that the bacteria do not have to travel as far in order to reach the bladder.
UTI treatment
Urinary tract infections are treated with antibiotics. The type of antibiotic given will depend on the type of bacteria that is causing the urinary tract infection. As soon as someone starts taking their antibiotics, they can expect their symptoms to start diminishing within 24 to 48 hours.
It is essential for those who have been prescribed antibiotics to take the medication exactly as directed by the medical profession. This ensures that the infection will heal completely and not return.
Do you currently have a UTI?
Making an appointment with your local urgent care center is recommended if you think you currently have a urinary tract infection. As you can see by the information above, it really is necessary for you to seek treatment as soon as possible. If you do not, your UTI will only continue to get worse.
