The Most Important Women’s Health Screenings
Women's health screenings cover various things, all of which are important parts of maintaining good health. Generally speaking, there are a few health screenings that should be done on a regular basis. However, there are also some that only apply to those with certain conditions or warning signs. Nonetheless, it is a good idea to become familiar with the most common women's health screenings. Continue reading to learn more.
A quick guide to women's health screenings
Outlined below are some of the most important screenings that women need in order to maintain good health. This information should be reviewed by those who are wanting to maintain a healthy body as they age.
Mammogram
One of the most common women's health screenings is the mammogram. This is an examination, including x-rays of the breasts. Mammograms are recommended every three years for those between the ages of 29 to 40. Once women are in their 40s, it is recommended that they undergo a mammogram yearly. Those with pre-existing related conditions or other warning signs may be recommended to undergo a mammogram once a year from the ages of 29 to 40.
Pap
Another common type of screening that is performed in women's health is the pap smear. This type of examination should be done as soon as a woman turns 21. It should then be continued once a year to check for any warning signs of cervical cancer. HPV tests are recommended every five years once a woman turns 30.
Colonoscopy
Colon cancer is more common than most people think, and oftentimes, it is symptomless, which makes it incredibly difficult to catch. Because of this, it is recommended to undergo a colonoscopy on a regular basis once passing the age of 45. Colonoscopies are not the most enjoyable screening to undergo, but they can go a long way in getting ahead of cancer.
Vision and hearing examinations
An important part of women's health is getting the eyes and ears checked regularly. As the aging process sets in, both vision and hearing can become weak or impaired. Regularly having both checked can be helpful in preventing problems from developing.
Blood panel test
Having blood drawn at least once a year during a check-up can be helpful when it comes to maintaining good health. Blood panels can check cholesterol levels, white blood cell counts, and much more, all of which are important parts of being healthy. Blood panels are typically recommended once a year unless there are other concerns or warning signs indicating a more frequent need.
