Sexually transmitted disease testing and treatment

As their name suggests, sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are typically spread through sexual contact. However, it is also possible to pass an STD through contaminated needles, breast milk, and blood. STD testing will include blood, urine, and perhaps further samples, such as the discharge one may produce. Our on-site lab allows us to test for the following STDs rapidly:

  • Human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)
  • Chlamydia
  • Herpes
  • Genital warts
  • Hepatitis B and C
  • Bacterial vaginosis

We understand that suspicion of having an STD and being diagnosed with an infection, curable or not, is a sensitive issue. Therefore, our team will take great care and act with a sense of discretion when caring for each patient during the entire process. If a patient receives a diagnosis requiring treatment more than an injection or antibiotics, we will advise on specialists, lifestyle changes, and any other necessary instructions until they can see an appropriate doctor for prolonged care.

Urinary tract infection

A urinary tract infection (UTI) is an alarming condition that occurs when bacteria from other parts of the body, such as the rectum, enter and contaminate the urethra (the tube that carries urine out of the body), resulting in infection. UTIs are common in women, especially during their childbearing years. UTI symptoms can include pain and burning during urination, frequent urination, blood in urine, pelvic pain or pressure, nausea, or vomiting — though these symptoms can also result from urinary stones or appendicitis.

We can treat UTIs with antibiotics if one seeks care early enough. However, it is important to note that even after receiving UTI medication, it may not entirely clear the infection as some bacteria remain dormant inside the bladder walls waiting for the opportunity to infect the urethra once again. If this is the case, additional treatment is required.

Abdominal and pelvic pain

Abdominal and pelvic pain are common symptoms of many conditions, including appendicitis, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), kidney stones, STDs, and more. Seeing as symptoms can vary in severity, we will examine patients in various ways, including physicals and imaging testing (X-rays, MRIs, CAT scans). In some cases, we may also order rapid blood and urine samples to determine a clear diagnosis and treatment plan. If the treatment plan requires additional appointments or specialists, we will recommend the appropriate specialists and timeframes.

Pregnancy test

If one suspects they are pregnant, we invite them to come to our center. We can provide a pregnancy test that is more accurate than over-the-counter alternatives. After a series of questions, our team will collect a urine sample by having the patient urinate in a sterilized cup and send it to our on-site laboratory for analysis. If the results are positive, the doctor can recommend care instructions and discuss the options available.

Pregnancy complications

Pregnancy complications can be alarming and must be addressed immediately to avoid miscarriage or damage to internal organs. It is important to seek care if one is experiencing the following:

  • Bleeding or spotting
  • Chest pain or shortness of breath
  • Dizziness or fainting spells

Expectant parents in their first trimester may experience the above symptoms, among others, as their body adapts to the pregnancy. Therefore, we will run a series of tests to see if the symptoms they are experiencing are part of a normal change or if more intricate treatment, including rest, is appropriate. It is important for patients to know that our urgent care center has set hours. If one is experiencing these symptoms or additional symptoms not mentioned above, we encourage them to seek emergency services.
